City balcony
Stadsbalkon (city balcony) is the name of the renewal project of the area in front of the train station in Groningen. It consists of an undulating, elevated square for pedestrians and underneath that a parking for bicycles and a cycling lane. The scheme was drawn up by KCAP (Kees Christiaanse Architects & Planners). The aim was to minimize the visual impact on the monumental station building and to maximize the area needed for all the different traffic streams.
