The LCW (lounge chair wood) was introduced in 1946. It is made of bend plywood and the initial idea of designer Charles Eames was to have seat and back rest as one continuous shape. Instead the design developed with a lumbar support between seat and back rest. Over the years it has been made in many types of wood and upholstery. The chair is still in production today, by Herman Miller in the United States and by Vitra in Europe. I came across this stained red one in the La Tourette Monastery in France.
