Vacant NL, Dutch exhibition curated by Rietveld Landscape at the Architecture Biennale in Venice last year. View from below at the blue styrofoam blocks which represent vacant buildings in the Netherlands. By ascending to the mezzanine (picture 2) one could have a look from above. The exhibition was a call to (temporarily) use these buildings for creative initiatives. But why has this been so difficult so far despite many previous calls? What obstacles or what underlying structures are at work there? Unfortunately the exhibition only seemed to pose an obvious problem and represent it rather than to attempt to answer those questions.
