Interior of the Villa Savoye in Poissy near Paris. Rather than the elevated volume, the ‘pilotis’ (columns), the fenêtre en longueur (horizontal window) or the façade libre, these ramps are really the essence of the house for me. They perforate and slice right through its heart, opening up the interior, permeating daylight and visually and functionally interconnecting the different levels. The villa was designed by Le Corbusier in the late 1920′s.
