Modernist town planning in decline in Drachten, Holland. Less than forty years after its completion the Raadhuisplein project is demolished and replaced by a new complex, as in many other towns. Although the reasons for the failure of these schemes is very complex it does show how modernist urbanism was based on all too easy assumptions and principles developed by architects and town planners.
