While I was driving home yesterday I came across this viewing platform at the Philipsdam in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It was built for educational reasons to give an idea of the Deltawerken (Delta works). This extensive project encompases a network of locks, levees and dams which were built from the 1950′s until 1986 to protect the southern coastline of the Netherlands against flooding whilst maintaining and enhancing the natural surroundings. The locks around this platform were ingeneuously built to prevent saltwater at one side to mix with fresh water on the other side.
